SCALE GUIDE
SCALE GUIDE
At 3D HISTORIC MINIATURE,
our miniatures are produced in several scales to suit collectors,
model makers, diorama builders and tabletop gamers.
Our principal scales are:
1/72
28mm
1/35
Not every miniature or collection is necessarily available
in every scale. Please check the individual product page for the
scale offered.
1/72 Scale
1/72 is a traditional modelling scale in which one unit on
the miniature represents 72 units in real life.
A person approximately 1.80 metres tall would therefore be
represented by a miniature approximately 25 mm tall.
This scale is particularly suitable for:
Because 1/72 is a true proportional scale, compatibility
with other 1/72 models is generally straightforward, although small
differences may exist between manufacturers.
28mm Scale
28mm is widely used for tabletop gaming, miniature painting,
collecting and dioramas.
Unlike 1/72 or 1/35, 28mm is not
always interpreted in exactly the same way by every manufacturer.
Some manufacturers measure approximately to eye level,
others to the top of the head, and proportions can also vary between
realistic, heroic and oversized styles.
For this reason, two miniatures both described as
"28mm" may not always have exactly the same height or body
proportions.
28mm Compatibility With Other Brands
We understand that many customers use our miniatures
alongside figures from other manufacturers.
Where technically possible, the size
of a 28mm miniature may be adjusted on request to improve
compatibility with another miniature range or manufacturer.
If compatibility is important for your project, please
contact us before placing your order and tell us:
-
the manufacturer or miniature range you want to match;
-
the approximate height of the figures you currently
use;
-
whether the measurement is taken to eye level or to the
top of the head, if known.
A photograph showing one of your existing miniatures next
to a ruler can also be useful.
We will then determine whether an appropriate size
adjustment is possible.
Important Information About Size Adjustments
Adjusting the overall size of a miniature can slightly
affect the dimensions of weapons, accessories, bases and other
details.
For this reason, compatibility adjustments are intended to
obtain the best practical visual match rather than guarantee an
absolutely identical proportion to another manufacturer's figures.
The design and proportions of different miniature ranges
can vary considerably.
Please contact us before ordering if you require a specific
size.
1/35 Scale
1/35 is a larger traditional modelling scale widely used
for military vehicles, figures and detailed dioramas.
A person approximately 1.80 metres tall would be
represented by a figure approximately 51 mm tall.
The larger format makes details, equipment, clothing and
facial features more visible and is particularly suitable for:
How Are Miniatures Measured?
For realistic scale figures, height may vary naturally
depending on the character.
Not every real person has the same height, and our
miniature ranges reflect this where appropriate.
A tall soldier, a short civilian, a child or an unusually
large character should therefore not necessarily have the same
overall height even when produced in the same scale.
The pose also affects the apparent height of a miniature.
Figures that are crouching, kneeling, running or bending
forward will naturally measure differently from a standing figure.
Which Scale Should I Choose?
Choose 1/72 if
you prefer smaller figures, large scenes, traditional historical
modelling or compatibility with 1/72 vehicles and scenery.
Choose 28mm if
you are interested in tabletop gaming, miniature painting,
collecting or compatibility with many popular gaming ranges.
Choose 1/35 if
you want larger figures with greater visual detail for modelling,
painting and display.
