ENGLISH The 1970s were among the most violent years of the Northern Ireland conflict known as the Troubles. Following the 1969 split within the Irish Republican Army, the Provisional IRA emerged as the largest armed republican organisation, seeking to end British rule in Northern Ireland and achieve a united Ireland. Its campaign included shootings, bombings and attacks on British security forces, as well as operations in which civilians were also killed. Against a background of sectarian violence, internment, military deployment and loyalist paramilitary activity, the IRA became one of the central actors in a conflict that would shape Northern Ireland for decades. GAEILGE Bhí na 1970idí ar cheann de na tréimhsí ba fhoréigní den choimhlint i dTuaisceart Éireann ar a dtugtar na Trioblóidí. Tar éis scoilt Arm Phoblacht na hÉireann i 1969, tháinig an tIRA Sealadach chun cinn mar an eagraíocht phoblachtach armtha ba mhó, agus é mar aidhm aici deireadh a chur le riail na Breataine i dTuaisceart Éireann agus Éire aontaithe a bhaint amach.
