ENGLISH From 1943 onward, thousands of French civilians were forced or pressured to leave for Germany under the Service du Travail Obligatoire (S.T.O.). Sent to factories, workshops and industrial sites in support of the German war effort, these men and women became part of one of the most resented policies of the Occupation. For many, the S.T.O. meant exile, uncertainty and hardship; for others, refusal led to hiding, flight or entry into the Resistance. This set pays tribute to the ordinary civilians caught in one of the most difficult realities of wartime France. FRANÇAIS À partir de 1943, des milliers de civils français sont contraints ou fortement poussés à partir en Allemagne dans le cadre du Service du Travail Obligatoire (S.T.O.). Envoyés dans les usines, ateliers et sites industriels au service de l’effort de guerre allemand, ces hommes et ces femmes deviennent les victimes de l’une des mesures les plus détestées de l’Occupation. Pour beaucoup, le S.T.O. signifie l’exil, l’incertitude et l’épreuve ; pour d’autres, le refus entraîne la clandestinité, la fuite ou l’entrée dans la Résistance. Cette boîte rend hommage aux civils ordinaires pris dans l’une des réalités les plus dures de la France en guerre.
