ENGLISH

Behind the battle lines of the American Civil War, camp life shaped the daily existence of Confederate soldiers. Tents, campfires, cooking pots, stacked equipment and improvised shelters formed the world in which men ate, rested, repaired clothing and weapons, wrote letters and prepared for the next march or battle.

These camps were places of routine, hardship and endurance. Soldiers faced weather, disease, shortages and uncertainty as much as enemy fire. Yet camp life also created bonds of comradeship and moments of ordinary life amid the brutal reality of war.

This set portrays the everyday atmosphere of a Confederate camp between 1861 and 1865.
