ENGLISH From 1939 to 1945, the Second World War transformed everyday life across Britain. Civilians faced rationing, blackout regulations, air raids, evacuation and the constant fear of invasion. Children were sent away from major cities, volunteers joined civil defence and the Home Guard, while women entered factories, farms and essential services in unprecedented numbers. Behind the front lines, millions of ordinary people became part of the war effort. From air-raid wardens and factory workers to evacuees, shopkeepers and families sheltering from the Blitz, the British Home Front became a battlefield of endurance, adaptation and everyday courage.
