ENGLISH From 1941 to 1943, Soviet civilians endured some of the harshest conditions of the Second World War. The German invasion brought destruction, evacuation, occupation, hunger and constant uncertainty to towns, villages and entire regions of the Soviet Union. Women, children, elderly people and workers struggled to survive amid air raids, shortages, ruined homes and the loss of loved ones. Some fled eastward, others remained under occupation, while millions contributed to the war effort through labour, endurance and sacrifice. This set portrays the ordinary Soviet civilians whose daily lives were transformed by war, hardship and the struggle to survive.
