ENGLISH In 1888, Whitechapel stood at the heart of London’s East End — a district crowded with workers, labourers, immigrants, market traders, the poor and those living on the edge of society. Narrow streets, lodging houses, public houses and dark alleys formed the backdrop of one of the most infamous urban settings in modern history. That same year, a series of brutal murders cast Whitechapel into fear and gave birth to the legend of “Jack the Ripper.” Yet beyond the crimes themselves lay the harsh daily reality of Victorian poverty, overcrowding and insecurity. This set recreates the people and atmosphere of Whitechapel in 1888 — a world of shadow, hardship and enduring historical fascination.
