By 1945, the war had reached the Japanese home islands with devastating force. Civilians endured severe shortages, air-raid warnings, evacuation, destruction and the growing fear that invasion might soon bring fighting directly into their towns and villages. Incendiary bombing devastated major cities, while families struggled to survive amid rationing, displacement and the collapse of everyday life.

From workers and mothers to children, elderly people and evacuees, Japanese civilians experienced the final months of the Pacific War far from the battlefield — yet increasingly surrounded by it.

1945年になると、戦争は壊滅的な形で日本本土にまで及びました。民間人は深刻な物資不足、空襲警報、疎開、都市の破壊、そして本土決戦への恐怖の中で生活していました。焼夷弾による空襲は多くの都市に甚大な被害を与え、人々は配給、避難、家屋の喪失、そして日常生活の崩壊に耐えなければなりませんでした。

労働者、母親、子ども、高齢者、疎開者たちにとって、太平洋戦争最後の数か月は、戦場から離れて暮らしていながらも、戦争そのものが日々の生活へと迫ってくる時代でした。
