ENGLISH In July 1947, strange debris discovered on a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico, triggered one of the most famous mysteries of the twentieth century. The local Army Air Field initially announced the recovery of a “flying disc,” only for military authorities to quickly replace the story with that of a weather balloon. Decades later, official investigations linked the debris to Project MOGUL, a secret balloon programme designed to monitor Soviet nuclear activity. Yet the contradictions, changing explanations and later stories of recovered bodies transformed Roswell into the ultimate symbol of UFO secrecy and speculation. What really fell from the sky in 1947?
